In the Leningrad region, the citizens of the city of Murino have tried to create a people’s militia in order to protect the peace of the citizens on public grounds. More than 100 people have signed up for the initiative. However, there is some doubt whether such protection will be effective, as it turns out, the militia has no authority whatsoever.
Recently, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Kolokoltsev, visited Murino and held a meeting with the militia members. He noted that the current legislation does not allow citizens to create their own militia and stressed that the militia members are responsible for their own actions and should not act as representatives of the law enforcement agencies.
At the same time, he praised the initiative of the citizens and said that he will support the idea of creating a people’s militia if it is done in accordance with the law. He also noted that the militia could be a good supplement to the police force if it is properly organized and equipped.
The members of the militia are determined to continue their work and are ready to cooperate with the authorities. They are also actively working on creating a legal framework for their activities.
The people of Murino are hoping that their initiative will be successful and that they will be able to protect the peace and safety of their citizens with the help of the militia. It remains to be seen whether the militia will be able to fulfill its mission and become a reliable partner of the police in the fight against crime.
